When I was unwell, I desperately needed a solution to the gas, bloating, indigestion, and stomach troubles that slowly grew worse over time.
When I learned about probiotics, I had that ‘light bulb’ moment, and rushed out to the store to pick up the highest quality probiotic I could find.
I took my first dose and went to sleep. Waking up the next day, I felt nothing.
Hmm, okay…I figured maybe it will just take longer to let the good bacteria populate my gut.
By the 3rd week, I still felt miserable. Moreover, I felt worse.
The bloating and gas had become unbearable.
I decided then that perhaps I needed different, more powerful strains. So I switched brands.
One with over 100 billion CFU (colony forming units) per serving.
Nothing changed.
After just a few days, the diarrhea, headaches fatigue, and the gas, and bloating had become nearly debilitating.

Why Your Probiotics Aren’t Working
After struggling for 15 years I discovered the 4 biggest reasons why most probiotics simply do not work:
1. Most probiotics contain a problematic ingredient: FODMAPs
For those suffering with chronic gut issues, this ingredient actually increases gas, bloating, headaches, and brain fog.
And companies add this ingredient thinking it’s beneficial for their typical customers – but chronic health sufferers aren’t their typical customers.
This nasty ingredient is a high FODMAP prebiotic, typically labeled as: inulin, FOS, GOS, XOS or chicory root.
*FODMAP stands for Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides and Polyols, which are short-chain carbohydrates (sugars) that the small intestine cannot absorb well. Many people experience digestive distress after eating foods with these ingredients.
If your probiotic contains any of these above prebiotics, it is likely making your condition much worse.
Now don’t get me wrong, these kinds of prebiotics are great for the average consumer because they help feed the good bacteria in your gut, helping them to further colonize the gut microbiome.
But common prebiotics spell bad news for those of us with chronic health issues because they are a FODMAP food, and it is a type of fiber that many people with chronic health issues have trouble digesting and only aggravate symptoms.

Now, let’s look at the 2nd reason your probiotic isn’t working:
2. Many of the most popular probiotic strains actually raise histamine levels in the body.
This is a HUGE problem that not many people are talking about.
Histamine is a chemical found in some of the body’s cells.
It causes many allergy symptoms, such as a runny nose, headaches, or sneezing.
In an attempt to protect the body, the immune system starts a chain reaction that prompts some of the body’s cells to release histamine and other chemicals into the bloodstream.
The histamine then acts on a person’s eyes, nose, throat, lungs, skin, or gastrointestinal tract, causing allergy symptoms.
More than half of the lactobacillus strains – featured in many probiotic supplements – (except L. plantarum) aggravate histamines in the body, causing severe reactions.
But did you know that there are probiotic strains that actually degrade histamines?
These strains naturally break down histamines in the body, helping soothe joint and muscle aches, fatigue, headaches and sleep issues.

Let’s look at the third and final reason your probiotic isn’t working:
3. A good probiotic will end up killing off bad bacteria. It must have an ingredient that will help neutralize the 'die-off' toxins that are produced during this process.
This may be the biggest tip out of all of these.
Because, once you begin taking probiotics and they begin to colonize your gut, they will be kicking out tens of billions of harmful bugs at once, such as candida fungus and other bacteria.
And these bad bugs don’t go quietly in the dark…
When they die off, they release potent neurotoxins called biofilms (LPS or lipopolysaccharides), which can wreak havoc on the body. Literally causing hundreds of symptoms including fatigue, muscle aches, brain fog and sleep issues.
And one of the most potent neurotoxins these bugs release is called acetaldehyde.
Unlike many toxins, which the body excretes, acetaldehyde stays in your body. It does not get excreted like other bodily toxins. A build up or accumulation of acetaldehyde can lead to joint discomfort, weak and achy muscles and fatigue.
Acetaldehyde is also what causes a hangover after a long night of drinking.
But there is a quick fix for this – molybdenum.
Molybdenum is one of the only substances that will remove acetaldehyde from the body.
It is a harmless trace mineral: it supports you by converting the acetaldehyde into acetic acid. This harmless acid is then excreted by the body.

4. Most good bacteria will never make it to your gut alive.
The fact is, most probiotics are dead before they even reach your gut.
If they don’t die trying to get to your doorstep, they likely will once they hit your stomach acid.

I have been on this product for the good part of a year. The stuff works but I feel like it may bc less effective over time due to resistance factor. truth is I need to maintain more consistency understanding that even if I experience temporary relief until I suffer a food intolerance reaction , that maintaining consistency daily is an absolute must. I didn’t expect something like this to work the way it did for me, but I am astounded at the results from taking this. I used to have terrible upset stomach that got progressively worse for me.
